A FUN Cobra weekend in Santa Barbara.............. that pretty much sums it up.
This year marks the Eighth Annual "BACC Santa Barbara - Not Knott’s” trip
This trip has it ALL..
Fun drive's
Scenery
Cars
Relaxing strolls on the beach
Shopping in Santa Barbara's Historic downtown Arts District
AND of course your BACC friend's .
Enjoy fine dining, unique shops and a variety of cultural venues including galleries, performing arts, historic sites . Top this off with a car show that stretches through one of the most beautiful downtowns in America all the way to the beach.
BACC Santa Barbara (Not Knott's) is planned around the Santa Barbara Wheel's and Waves car show which is held on Sunday May 16. Participation in the car show is optional as is when you actually drive down to Santa Barbara. We generally have folks leaving on either Friday or Sat. morning and there are usually a few folks that due to schedules can't stay until Monday and leave on Sunday.
We try to keep things laid back and not have too much structure to the weekend. Folks are basically free to get together with others in the group once we arrive in Santa Barbara to take in what the Santa Barbara region has to offer. That said we do have a few options planned for the weekend.
Social Hours:
Once again we will have a no host wine/cocktail gathering at the hotel on Sat. afternoon/evening. The cost of hor'dourves and appetisers, glasses, plates etc. has been included in the event registration. If you are planing on attending the social hour, Please bring a bottle (or 2) of wine or the BACC favorite "ready to serve" Jose Cuervo Gold Margarita to share and/or sodas for those that do not drink alcohol. ( there should be time once we arrive to hit the grocery store should you not have room in your car.
This years plan options include:
Friday-
Our drive to Santa Barbara will include meeting up in Salinas for breakfast for our drive south and we should arrive at our destination mid-afternoon for pool time and cocktails (BYOB)
Friday night-
Bowling at Zodo's and Beyond (if you don't bowl you can always have a drink in the sports bar, watch other BACC members attempt to bowl and more (see the web site)
Dinner on State St. is always an option for those who would rather spend some quality time with their significant others
Saturday-
Explore the area (shopping, drive down the coast, wine tasting etc. (more info on "things to do in Santa Barbara" will be provided to those registered for this event
Ride the "Land Shark" ( we have arranged for a private Land Shark tour of SB
Traditional BACC Santa Barbara cocktail reception (BYOB)
Sunday:
For those participating in the car show we will meet at about 7:00AM in the lobby to caravan to our parking location on State St. After parking we walk to breakfast a few blocks away. Traditionally, the lady's walk to down State street to a lady's breakfast. Afterward the afternoon is pretty open with checking out the scenery on State St., stopping at one of the many restaurants for a drink and/or bite to eat. Those choosing not to participate in the show will find plenty to do in the area (Santa Barbara things to do) After the car show closes we will gather for a group dinner at The Palace Grill .
Monday-
Saddle up and move out as we say good-bye to Santa Barbara and head north for home
What's "Not Knott's" Well, back a few years ago .......a handful of NorCal Cobra guy's (you know who you are) started going down to Knott's Berry Farm for the annual AHA (American Handcrafted Automobile) "Fun in the Sun" car show. After a few years of sitting in the parking lot baking in the hot sun, the fun began to fade and an alternative to Knott's was sought out. The alternative became the BACC Annual “NOT Knott's” trip down to the "Wheels & Wave's" car show in Downtown Santa Barbara.
So what is "Wheels & Wave's"? Wheels & Wave’s Car Show is set on picturesque State St. in the heart of Santa Barbara. 400 Hot Rods and Classics ( grouped by model) from across America will be on display for one day only. There will be live music, great food & beverages. And for alternatives activities contemporaneous with the car show there is shopping in the many galleries and shops along State St. as well as other attractions and possibly a spa outing while the guy's look at cars.
The “Wheels and Waves” Foundation supports the following organizations with the proceeds from Wheels & Wave's Car Show:
* The Page Youth Center * The Santa Barbara Downtown Organization Christmas Parade - * The Progeria Research Foundation * The Goleta Lions Service Club
* The Casa Esperanza Homeless Center –
